Historia de los abuelos que no tuve
Jablonka, Ivan
This book recounts the search for two ghosts: the grandparents whom the author did not get to know. In this search, letters and documents are rescued, testimonies of those who knew them are compiled, archives and libraries are investigated... From all this emerges the portrait of two characters, of two people of flesh and blood, and also of a very convulsive part of European history, shaken by the First World War, Stalinism, the Second World War and the Holocaust. Inserted in this framework, anonymous victims of History in capital letters that crushes everything, the ghosts of this book emerge, the grandparents of Ivan Jablonka: Polish Jews, he an upholsterer, she a seamstress, communist militants who knew persecution and prison, who when the Nazis arrived they had to flee to France, where they had two children -one of them the father of the author-, and were later deported; their trail is lost in Auschwitz: about what they lived there there are only a few hypotheses, but about their terrible end there is no doubt.
