Historia de la moda contemporánea
del corsé a la fast fashion
Ester, Belén
Entering the world of fashion is doing it in the world of time travel. It is looking for our memories of infancy and childhood among the old photographs that are at home, classic movies or video clips. It is to remember who we were and why. It is looking with a certain benevolence at that me who dressed in such a strange way, so from then, so different. To look at the 20th century when we have been in the 21st century for more than twenty years is to do it from the melancholy distance of those of us who remember that everything was much simpler before, and that includes our way of dressing. Clothing was a social response to a much larger circumstance than mere trends. If women wore trousers and moccasins, if they teased or cut their hair, if they wore suits or huge shoulder pads, it was for a reason. Always for something. Walking through the fashion of the 20th century is like opening a trunk full of memories containing Cristóbal Balenciaga, the women's tuxedo, the appers, Claudia Schiffer, bell bottoms, Mecano, the corset and Edith Head. The pages that make up this book are immersed in those stories that made the preceding hundred years something wonderful and special. And that is why taking refuge between these lines is to relive those times, those rules, those ways of understanding trends and consuming fashion, that history that, ultimately, has defined us. We invite you, dear reader, to enter with us in this walk through the world in which our grandmothers, our mothers and ourselves were and grew up. Together, let's start this trip down memory lane...
