Historia Augusta

The "Augusta History" is perhaps the most puzzling work in all of classical literature. We don't know who wrote it. Nor when. Nor for what purpose. We are confused by his constant oscillation between historical rigor and the most brazen fable. Despite everything, this set of imperial biographies constitutes a fundamental source of information for reconstructing the history of the Roman Empire in the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
