Hispania antigua

Plácido, Domingo

This first volume of the twelve that consists of the History of Spain directed by professors Fontana and Villares presents Ancient Hispania in its unity and diversity, in the diachronic dynamics of a long era full of changes, from the limits with Prehistory to the beginnings of the Christian kingdoms. Professor Domingo Plácido begins his presentation with the towns described in Greco-Latin sources and with the colonizations of Greeks and Phoenicians, to address the Roman conquest from the demand that "local history" and "universal history" appear as a whole. "Without a doubt, the author tells us, starting with the Punic Wars, the history of the Iberian Peninsula is part of the history of Rome," and for this reason he rigorously analyzes a double projection: that of the Italics in Hispania and that of Hispanics in war and in the administration of the Empire.
