Hasta la locura, hasta la muerte

Autumn 1942. A crowded train crosses dark Germany. On board is Harriet, who is heading to Munich after temporarily leaving her two young children in an orphanage in her native Denmark. Her husband, Gerhard, has been killed on the eastern front, where he was fighting against communism on the German side. Though she hates war with all her might and is in deep mourning, Harriet burns to do her bit to understand why she moved her husband to give her life for the cause of war. she. In Munich, Harriet is hosted by some of Gerhard's old acquaintances, the Frankes, a couple formed by Klaus, a Luftwaffe aviation officer, and Gudrun, his Danish wife. The couple belongs to the upper class, and while the war intensifies at the front, in their magnificent villa they continue to provide sumptuous banquets in which they rub shoulders with the best of Nazi society. However, behind the scenes of the elegant salons and especially in the basement that houses the villa's Ukrainian maids, the true face of horror prevails. A formidable depiction of the daily lives of women during one of the darkest periods in European history, Until Madness, Until Death is the stark portrayal of a woman caught between the desire to remain loyal to her late husband's convictions and the the moral obligation to rebel against the infamy taking place before their eyes.
