Gigacapitalistas
Staglianò, Riccardo
The rich have always existed, and always will exist. But if those of before were mega-capitalists, those of today are giga-capitalists. The pandemic, the most calamitous event in the lives of nine-tenths of humanity, has been a ride for them. Jeff Bezos has added some eighty billion dollars to his already swollen fortune. Elon Musk, for a moment, surpassed him as the richest man in the world. The virtual nation of two billion users founded by Mark Zuckerberg, if it were material, would be the most populous in the world. But the issue is not only the amount of money they possess, but rather that these amounts give these individuals a power that was previously only available to sovereign states. How to stop the race towards new types of monopolies by this handful of plutocrats who aspire not only to influence what we buy, but also what we think? With fair taxes, better laws, more rights for exploited workers and a new collective conscience. Because if people continue to be told to eat cakes if there is no bread, history teaches that it does not usually end well.
