Fuego sobre Igueriben
Gómez, David (1975- )
Luis Codrán, correspondent for La Crónica de España will travel to Melilla with the intention of being the first to send the chronicle of the conquest of the Bay of Al Hoceima and the definitive defeat of the harka led by Abd el Krim. There he will witness the terrible siege to which the Spanish camp was subjected. He will have to decide whether to write about the battle or be the protagonist of it, whether to write about death or killing. Besieged by the enemy, without water, without food or ammunition, without medicine and with the terrible sun of that summer, the Spanish soldiers sell their lives dearly in front of thousands of Rif people who know that Igueriben is the key to expel the Spaniards from the Rif Moroccan. The days go by and the dead crowd in that redoubt, the stench of death invades everything, madness, thirst and despair make every second a struggle to survive. He will discover misery and human dignity, he will discover what friendship is, honor and what war is. But always and at all times will be Commander Benítez, who will give them courage and strength to continue fighting until the end, not for Spain, not for the King, not for a flag, but for them, for each of the three hundred soldiers of Igueriben.
