Franziska

La lucha

Weiss, Ernst

Although it is not easy to synthesize the plot of "Franziska", an expressionist novel in which a good number of topics of interest come together, we could say that it tells the story of a young aspiring pianist who intends to consolidate a career as a performer. In the midst of these efforts, however, she is reunited with Erwin, a young man whom she has known briefly since her adolescence and with whom she establishes a complex and tense relationship. Published in 1916, this novel, in which many of its author's literary fixations are intertwined (the motif of the father or the social situation of women, for example), represents one of the most important points in Ernst's narrative career. Weiss, a member of Kafka's Prague circle and distinguished on numerous occasions by critics, despite which he did not receive in life the public success that his tireless artistic efforts would have deserved.
