Facendera
García Sierra, Óscar
The facendera is a type of community work that mobilizes an entire town for the same purpose. The narrator of this novel explains the term to Aguedita in the middle of a party, in which he tells her a story that she interrupts with her questions. A story about the son of the pharmacist and the daughter of The Food Man, about a town in León where the mines have been closed, the thermal power plant is going to be demolished and there is no future. A story about people with no expectations who consume bricks. And also a love story, of tuned cars and hangouts in the parking lot of the gas station, of powders in the ruins of the hermitage, of experiments with roosters and with roosters' testicles. And, above all, the story of someone who tells stories to seduce, manipulate, to cajole.
