Anno, Mitsumasa
The traveler arrives in a boat to a place in northern Europe and, crossing forests, villages and cities on horseback, he will get to know the landscape, the architecture, the customs and the daily life of its people. Mitsumasa Anno published this visual work of "The Journeys" around the Old Continent in 1977, when the presence of a Japanese tourist was surprising in the countries -Denmark, England, France, Germany...- that he visited. The author himself comments on his impressions of that first journey in 1953 with anecdotes, explanations of the content of the double-page images and reflections on the culture shock that reveal his interest in nature, his pacifist and tolerant character -"there are more things that unite us than those that separate us"- and his passion for art.
