The exploitation of fossil fuels was fundamental for the development of the Industrial Revolution as well as for the creation of cultural imaginaries that instituted a productivist worldview tending to legitimize ecocidal practices and colonial extractivism. In this passionate essay, Jaime Vindel analyzes the impact of energy imaginaries on scientific disciplines and cultural practices during the last two centuries. It also critically addresses its validity in the context of neoliberalism and the current ecosocial crisis.
