¿Estamos solos?

Are we alone in the universe? That is the big question that humans have asked ourselves since we began to look at the starry sky. During the last decades we have witnessed an extraordinary scientific and technological development that has revolutionized space exploration and the search for other lives in the Cosmos: living beings that could be similar to those that inhabit the Earth... or perhaps very different. The challenge, in any case, is to be able to detect them. Currently, astrobiology research is looking for signs of life on Mars and other planets, on various satellites, including Europa and Titan, and on minor bodies in the Solar System. Outside our cosmic neighborhood, new extrasolar planets are discovered every day: we already know thousands of them and several dozen are considered habitable. In those distant worlds some kind of biology might have triumphed, and perhaps other forms of intelligent life exist as well. If they are really there, will we be able to make contact?
