España primer amor
Pozner, Vladimir
Emotional, beautiful and simple, this short novel focuses on the thousands of Spaniards who arrived in Argelès-sur-Mer, near Collioure, fleeing Franco's troops in 1939. The story revolves around a Frenchman, Pierre, witness of the terrifying retreat to France, who falls in love with Pilar, a very young Spanish woman. Although they spend a night together, the next day he discovers to his enormous disappointment that Pilar has disappeared. Pierre will search for her in vain, and in that search he will come across again and again with her life in the terrible countryside of Argelès and the cruel fate that thousands of Spaniards met there.
