España en el siglo XIX

García García, Carmen (1958- )

The 19th century was a period of profound changes at all levels, in the political, economic, social and cultural fields. During this century, liberalism was implemented, industrialization developed and a classist society and bourgeois culture emerged. It was also, especially in its first half, a period of struggle between the new and the old. Spain did not escape these mutations and oscillations and, with its own particularities, followed the great trends of the period. In fact, if we analyze Spanish history in the European context, some of the clichés about its peculiarity collapse. And, without falling into triumphalism, this broader perspective also helps to qualify the widespread belief of Spanish decadence that was widely spread by authors between centuries. This book, aimed at all history-loving readers and undergraduate and postgraduate students of this subject, provides a global vision of the Spanish 19th century in its political, economic and social aspects. The nineteenth century is presented as a stage in which, although there is a certain delay in certain aspects with respect to the great powers, the foundations of contemporary Spanish life are also established during it.
