Uhtred from Bebbanburg is a man of his word. An oath bound him to Alfredo. An oath bound him to Etefelda. And now an oath will take him away from Bebbanburg, the home he has fought so hard to recover; for Uhtred has sworn that, at the death of King Edward, he will kill two men. And the king is dying. After a violent confrontation at sea, Uhtred will sail with his men to Lundene, the largest and richest city in England. And meanwhile the kingdom is divided, and the two future kings are gathering their armies to face each other on the field of battle. Only one can be victorious.
