For centuries, hysteria was believed due to the uterus moving through the woman's body and, to treat it, cold showers and massages of a sexual nature were used. The road to therapies based on understanding and dialogue was long and required a lot of effort. The most famous psychologists have not been spared from suffering from disorders such as depression (William James) or paranoia (Reich). Maslow, creator of the pyramid of needs, had great lack of self-esteem. The therapists Masters and Johnson, Fritz Perls or Marston, creator of a lie detector and Wonder Woman, also suffered misunderstanding. This book recovers the contribution of women who have been neglected by history (Christiana Morgan, Bertha Pappenheim or Lucia Galleazzi), or the most sinister experiments: the misadventures of Pavlov's dogs or the reality of Little Albert, the baby used by the Watson behaviorist. Likewise, the tests have had a peculiar journey due to their romantic stories (the T.A.T. was created by a couple in love) as well as their large gaps (intelligence tests used for war and eugenic purposes). In these pages we will learn about the darkest aspects (Hitler's psychoanalysis, CIA interrogations...) and the brightest (the liberation of the insane, humanism...) of that scientific discipline called psychology.
