In his apartment in Pisa, Pietro Benati awaits his disappearance. According to his mother, a curse hangs over his family: sooner or later, all male Benati cut the umbilical cord and Pietro -the last weak and without qualities son- will be no exception. The first was his grandfather, who disappeared during the Ethiopian war and was dishonorably repatriated the following year. The second was Berto, his father, an inveterate player who in 1988 returned home after a month without the little finger on his right hand. Every time a scandal weighs on his family, Pietro thinks that his time will soon arrive. But the one who vanishes into nothingness is his older brother, Tommaso, a promising soccer player, mathematical genius and Pietro's only reference. No matter how hard Pietro tries in his musical career, at university or with girls, no matter how much he changes cities and countries, no matter how hard he tries to cut ties with his fake father or his hypochondriac mother, his life continues to be an indecipherable succession of failures and disappointments. At least, until he meets two creatures just as rowdy and confused as he is: Laurent, a gigolo fond of night swimming and booze, and Dora, a horror movie enthusiast with a pain opposite to his own. Beside him, Pietro finally lights up.
