Envoltura, historia y síncope
Naverán, Isabel de
July 18, 1936, Bayonne. After hearing the news of the uprising, Antonia Mercé y Luque, a Spanish dancer and dancer nicknamed Argentina, in fateful harmony with the Second Republic, suffers a collapse and dies. She is 46 years old. History breaks and the artist breaks. Isabel de Naverán pursues, in close dialogue with the images, the echo of that blow, an individual convulsion that contains, in a representative and symbolic way, the collective pain that was approaching and that has resonated, at different times and in different ways, throughout through other artists, some as apparently remote as the Japanese Kazuo Ohno, who needed to recover her dance fifty years after having seen her dance, Takao Kawaguchi, the dancer Rocío Molina or the writer Gertrude Stein.
