Entre algodones
Finalista XLII Premio de Novela Felipe Trigo
Soler, José
Although they are still young and enjoy a comfortable position, apparently successful, the marriage formed by Pau and Amanda is going through a crisis caused by the exhaustion and illness of the wife, which has affected the couple and reduced their relationship to an anodyne coexistence. . From the window of the family apartment, with the interest of a voyeur, the husband observes with increasing fascination the movement of the guests of the luxurious hotel opposite, located in the Eixample of Barcelona, a dream world in which they always seem to be celebrating. The desire to get to know him first hand leads him to experience the risky game of the double life and for a while he is torn between the sophisticated temptations of that parallel reality, where he becomes intimate with an actress who seems to embody everything he misses, even though his Luminous attractiveness has a dark reverse, and the convenience, also economic, of not breaking the bond that unites him with his wife, who in turn relives, in the company of another man, sensations that seemed dormant. The hotel, an almost magical space that suggests the unattainable, or the danger just around the corner, is the center of the plot of Entre algodones, a novel where the characters want something different but at the same time fear losing what they have. In an agile and direct language, José Soler raises the conflict between everyday life and fantasy, principles and the desire for freedom, the weight of routine and the temptation of adventure.
