Ensayos de un buscador espiritual
Emerson, Ralph Waldo
I am beginning to write the back cover of this book and I remember that some time ago a good friend asked me why Ralph Waldo Emerson's thought seemed so important to me; why she spent so much time digging into his texts; why, as an editor, it seemed essential to me to prepare and publish this anthology. My response was that Emerson's work -and in particular the writings that make up this volume- awakens a part of the human psyche that contemporary culture and society have brutally suppressed. His philosophy, in accordance with the ancestral, majority and yet disdained view of human experience today, presents us with a universe that is entirely alive and of moral order, as well as a spiritual nucleus that rules in the center of each one of us. . In fact, that spiritual vision unfolds in these essays on everything that concerns us: ethics, politics, economics, power, love, friendship... Thus, as we go through its pages, the dark nightmare that the rampant materialism of our time has installed in our consciences -as if the world and the beings that compose it were nothing more than an immense machine devoid of meaning- is unraveling. Something wakes up. Something that maybe you didn't even remember existed. Call it whatever you want. You will instantly recognize that this awakening is the original and oldest task of philosophy: not so much something that helps us understand reality as something that helps us heal the wounds it inflicts on us. And in this way, as the legends tell, a door opens, a path is traced. The hopeless perception that we have of ourselves -and that has given rise to the global civilizing crisis that today threatens planetary destruction- begins to give way. Nature, the Absolute and its mystery recover their place. The real and the sacred become again, as they always were, one single thing.
