Enebro & espina

Enebro & espina

Reid, Ava

Marlinchen and her two sisters live with their sorcerer father in a city that is trading magic for industry. As Oblya's last true witches, she and her sisters are nothing more than a tourist attraction as they treat their clients with archaic remedies, cajoling them with nostalgic charm. Marlinchen spends her days uncovering secrets in exchange for a few rubles, and trying to placate her tyrannical and xenophobic father, who keeps her daughters isolated from the outside world. But at night, Marlinchen and her sisters sneak out to enjoy the city's amenities and revel in the excitement it offers, especially the newly established ballet theater, where Marlinchen meets a dancer who immediately captures her heart. As Marlinchen's nocturnal encounters become more passionate and frequent, so does the threat of her father's wrath and magic. And while Oblya's culture flourishes and its industry increases, a monster lurks among it all, born of intolerance and resentment, and suffused with power from the old world. Caught between history and progress, blood and desire, Marlinchen must call upon her own magic to keep the city safe and find her place in it.
