Art is usually considered a solitary activity. But visual artists, writers, and musicians often find their energy through a collective environment. Sharing ideas around a table has always led to fruitful exchanges between artists of all kinds. In this book, Mary Ann Caws explores a rich variety of gathering places, past and present, that have been conducive to the release and necessary sustenance of creative energies.
