En este ir a América
los inicios de la enseñanza del español en los Estados Unidos (1909-1939)
Pedrazuela Fuentes, Mario
This book aims to highlight the important work that a group of philologists, led by Ramón Menéndez Pidal, did to make Spanish one of the most important languages in the world in terms of its dissemination, as well as the best vehicle for to make the cultural, historical, landscape and literary wealth of Spain reach beyond our borders. They were the ones who founded the first summer courses for foreigners in 1912, which filled the halls of the Student Residence with young people from different countries, and who inspired numerous universities to create their own, turning the arrival of foreign students into a important resource both for themselves and for the cities that host them and offering a model to imitate for private language schools, which from June to August, and throughout the year, are filled with foreigners eager to learn Spanish better , live with its inhabitants and visit its cities, monuments and museums. A work that, since it was initiated and promoted by those philologists from the Center for Historical Studies, has borne extraordinary fruits and contributed significantly to positioning Spanish as the third most relevant language in the world, only behind Chinese and English.
