Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero, 2
Mutis, Álvaro
This second volume that collects the adventures and misfortunes of Maqroll the Gaviero begins with Amirbar, which receives its title from a mine located in a remote place in the Colombian mountain range, named for the moan that the air produces when entering its caves. The Gaviero has abandoned the seas to seek his fortune there, but he finds nothing but loneliness, anxiety and delirium. The whistle of the wind brings him the call of the sea, which claims him as one of its creatures. In Abdul Bashur, dreamer of ships we leave Maqroll for a moment to meet the faithful friend with whom he shares, from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, his companies and travels. The Lebanese sailor has a desire: to find the ideal ship, and in this impossible search he will reach the fulfillment of his fatal destiny. Triptych of Sea and Land is the final touch with which Mutis closes the cycle dedicated to the adventures of Maqroll. In it three short stories are concentrated, two experiences in the Gaviero's life that revealed regions of his soul until then unknown to him and in which, much to his regret, or in spite of himself, he had been navigating without knowing it.
