Els meus dies feliços al manicomi

Els meus dies feliços al manicomi

Simic, Goran

The siege of Sarajevo has been little publicized, literary speaking. There is a deep gap between the intention of the poets to provide an immediate testimony and the public's offensive disinterest in having these testimonies as poetic, literary reflections. What is striking about this literature in the form of poems, minimal writings of an immediate urgency, small narratives or essays loaded with moral reflection is the fact that these writings refuse to be turned into a simplifying message. And this is the fundamental reason why so little literature has been read about the tragedy in Sarajevo. The truth about this siege cannot be summed up, nor understood, with a story divided between good and bad. Sarajevo is not an explicable conflict with two opposing sides.
