Everett, Percival

Crime novel, biting comedy, caricature of white supremacism, it is a mixture of elements executed with bravery, daring and genius; a narration that does not leave you indifferent, that acts like a punch, and that is called to remember what has not yet been overcome. Everett is based on a real event, the atrocious massacre, on August 28, 1955, of Emmett Till, a black teenager, born in Chicago, who while on vacation with relatives in Money, Mississippi, was accused by a white woman, Carolyn Bryant, for having flirted with her, which was enough for her brother and her husband to cruelly murder him, mutilating his body and throwing it into the Tallahatchie River. The boy's mother decided that at her funeral the coffin would remain open so that the brutality of the events was known, which contributed to grab even more headlines, shocked a large part of the population and activated the fight for Rights civilians.
