Elástico de sombra
Cárdenas, Juan
Don Sando and Miguel are two veteran macheteros, masters of an ancient Afro-Colombian martial art, who set out on the trail of "shadow games", practically forgotten combat techniques, and in particular after the legendary art of "Shadow elastic" , which allows those who master it to fight in absolute darkness. On their way, the two macheteros will meet ghosts, witches and other fantastic beings that will put the skill and cunning of the masters to the test, in a journey that will reveal until what point that magical world of appearances and disappearances intersects with the current moment, full of social conflicts and centuries-old political struggles. In this short novel, woven by Juan Cárdenas from the oral stories of the Cauca macheteros themselves, the fire of the ancient tradition of novels like Apuleyo's El asno de oro or Zadig de Voltaire burns, where narrative sophistication is at the service of the pleasure that folk tales give us. Elastic de sombra is a tribute to the invincible dignity of the oppressed and an appeal to the need to put up a proud resistance in a country, and a continent, where the very deep wounds opened by the White Man are still felt today.
