El tango
cuatro conferencias
Borges, Jorge Luis
In October 1965, Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most important authors of the 20th century, gave a series of lectures on the origin of tango over four afternoons somewhere in Buenos Aires. A Spanish immigrant went to all of them and recorded them with a tape recorder. The tapes were lost until 2013 and their discovery was also that of a prodigious encounter: that of Borges and tango, for him a symbol of happiness. In the conferences we find a Borges who is lucid and witty, who portrays the Palermo and the South of yesteryear, populated by compadritos, handsome, good children, houses of bad fame and milongas, to question the origin, the symbols, the myths and the lyrics of the emblematic music of the Río de la Plata. Now these four unpublished conferences are finally collected, and the text includes the original recordings in which the author's voice can be enjoyed.
