El sueño del tiempo
un ensayo sobre las claves del envejecimiento y la longevidad
López Otín, Carlos
Kroemer, Guido
The dream of time arises from the realization that, although physics and philosophy teach us that the flow of time can only be a fantasy created by our mind, biological time lives in us and we live in the time of the world. In addition, technological advances on the frontier of science have led us to question a series of principles about the sense of time that were considered immutable and were engraved in the stone of knowledge, and that now crack and fade until they vanish. In this book we will reconstruct the long history of time, from its origin to the present, and explore its impact on aging and longevity. We will address the diseases associated with the loss of the notion of temporality and describe the possibilities that science offers to slow down the effects of the advance of time. Finally, we will ask ourselves if the human species, despite its obvious vulnerability, can create new elixirs of longevity and walk towards some form of physical immortality that other organisms seem to have achieved.
