Sicily, 1929. The small town of Vigàta awaits with excitement the arrival of an exceptional guest: the young Ethiopian prince Grhane Sollassié Mbassa, nephew of Emperor Haile Selassie, who wishes to enroll in the Royal School of Mining. Mussolini himself demands that the prince receive all his (many) whims, to win his favor and get him to help him in his colonial policy. But the young man, rascal and vividor, conqueror of women and inveterate player with an inexhaustible need for money, will test the patience of everyone: from ministerial officials to fascist leaders, through high-ranking clergymen and local aristocrats, each and every one of them will try to deal with the pretenses of power of a young man who embodies the ridiculousness of all dictatorships
