El secreto de Spinoza
Santos, José Rodrigues dos
Amsterdam, 1640. A Jew is expelled from the synagogue for questioning the Holy Scriptures. A child attends the event. Spinoza's little Bento is considered the greatest prodigy of the Portuguese community in Amsterdam, but this episode plants the seeds of doubt in him. What if the Bible was wrong? Suspicion will lead Bento to the greatest intellectual quest of all time. Who really wrote the Sacred Texts? What is the truth about God? What is Nature? However, it is a forbidden search and soon the young Jew, Spanish-Portuguese Sephardic, will discover that he will have to pay a terrible price for his questions. Jewish rabbis and Christian preachers will persecute him and accuse him of the worst of crimes.
