El riu i els inconscients
Orriols, Maria Dolors
The river and the unconscious, written between 1950 and 1953, is one of the first novels in the Catalan language that narrates the experience of the war and the post-war period from the side of the vanquished. It portrays the generation coming out of childhood in the 1930s, who lived through the war at a fighting age and then had to deal with a devastating and unending dictatorship. It is a choral story that has as its background some transcendental events, which condition the characters and which, indirectly, are also protagonists. The voices of the "unconscious" are contrasted with that of the "laughter", which echoes their experiences.
