El retrato del señor W. H.

El retrato del señor W. H.

Wilde, Oscar

Cyril Graham, a young scholar and amateur actor, is convinced that behind the initials "W. H." that appear in the dedication of Shakespeare's Sonnets is not hidden, as critics assumed, William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke, but a young actor from the company of the poet, and with whom he had apparently fallen in love, named Willie Hughes. As proof of his theory, he provides a mysterious portrait of the young Hugues with his hand resting on an edition of the Sonnets; but soon it is discovered that the painting is a forgery, which pushes him to suicide.
