Media archeology has become in recent decades a methodological current with an increasingly significant presence in audiovisual studies, encompassing theory, history and artistic practice. It is proposed as a material archaeology, which studies media devices and technologies and their reception by users, and as an archeology of discourse, where the criticism of audiovisual statements delves into the understanding of the contemporary media universe and its modes, locating them in the historical cycle of Modernity.
