El reino de Arabia Saudí y la hegemonía de Oriente Medio
Hernández Martínez, David
Saudi Arabia is one of the main political, religious and economic centers of the Middle East. Since 1932, the country has been under the control of the Casa de Saúd, which attempts to transfer its leadership image to the entire region. However, the profound transformations that have been taking place in the area since the 2011 Arab Spring constitute notable impediments to the full development of Saudi international politics. King Salmán and Prince Mohamed bin Salmán are introducing important changes in the internal and external sphere of the kingdom, focused on consolidating their hegemonic position vis-à-vis Iran and other surrounding powers. Analyzing the historical evolution of the Wahhabi State serves to better understand the great events that have marked the evolution of the Arab and Muslim world in recent decades. The Saudi crown has to face a complex domestic and regional panorama, in which each one of the actions they undertake will largely determine the survival of the regime and the strength of the kingdom on the world stage.
