Far away from the ruthless dark underworld, Drizzt Do'Urden struggles to survive on the surface world. In search of a place where he will be accepted by the races of the kingdoms, he begins a pilgrimage that sometimes despairs him and even makes him think of returning to Menzoberranzan. But the young dark elf, unjustly accused of murder, receives the unexpected help of Montolio, the blind watchman, who will take care of teaching him the language, customs and way of being of the surface inhabitants.
