El rai dels innocents
Español, Quim
David, the innocent boy protagonist of this novel, lives on the outskirts of a city, a ruthless and wacky environment against which he tries to remedy the school in the neighborhood where he studies and where teenagers from different backgrounds live, with their fragility and "that excess of vital forces which brings them to the brink of catastrophe." The pitfalls and adversities of the place threaten the candid boy, and the question the reader is asked is, precisely, whether the modest man can survive in a ruthless society. With a rich and precise language, the author vigorously draws the singular way of being of the innocent, and that of the constellation of characters who relate to it. The pace of the novel flows punctuated by the setbacks experienced at school and in the neighborhood, and accelerates toward a bewildering outcome.
