El pueblo de las cinco comidas

Scarfoglio, Edoardo

Controversial and vehement literary journalist, Edoardo Scarfoglio dedicated his last book to being comfortable with Great Britain, which he accuses of not feeling European, because the Roman occupation of Britannia was brief and ephemeral. Almost a century before Brexit, the Italian author anticipates Charles de Gaulle's opposition to England's entry into the European Union and accuses the "perfidious Albion" of always exploiting other people's rivalries to prevent the creation of a great power in Europe. He reviews the episodes that enriched Great Britain between the reigns of Elizabeth I and Victoria and severely criticizes the methods they resorted to to amass their fortune, based -he says- on cruelty, looting and betrayal.
