It's Christmas and a serial killer leaves body parts of his latest victim on display all over Cumbria. A strange message appears at each crime scene: #BSC6. Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw of the National Crime Agency are faced with a case that doesn't make sense. Why were some victims anesthetized while others died in horrific agony? Why does their only suspect irrefutably deny what they can prove, but admit things they weren't even aware of? And why did all the victims take the same two weeks off work three years earlier? And when a disgraced FBI agent contacts them, things take an even darker turn. Because she doesn't think Poe is dealing with a serial killer at all; she believes that she is dealing with someone much, much worse, a man who calls himself "the Prosecutor".
