El poder en escena
motivos visuales en la esfera pública

The images generated by power use certain visual motifs under which a sum of interested protocols is hidden that gives them their authentic meaning. Given this verification, the forty chapters and the two addenda that make up El poder en escena respond to the need to track these icons of the public sphere in order to decipher the nature of these images that seem routine and spontaneous, and before which We don't usually question ourselves. Just by doing it and stopping at each reason to name it, a decisive step is already taken to recognize its ideological bias. These visual motifs are generated from the field of politics, perhaps the most notorious for their propaganda will; from the economy, always based on the concealment of its real power; of the judiciary, another area where opacity is the norm; of the police forces, which build motives of apparent objectivity; or some social rituals that are repeated in an insistent and enigmatic way. The fact of delving into the iconographic origins of each motif -in the cinema, painting, photography or architecture and its subsequent ramifications- allows us to question the visual forms that the different spheres of power use to represent themselves. And at the same time it serves to ask us about the genesis and evolution of these forms, bear witness to their false transparency and thus return a critical and ironic look at the power that generates them.
