El pez sigue flotando
Medio, Dolores
A group of middle-class neighbors live in the same building in Madrid in the fifties. They are isolated beings who hardly relate to each other through the patio of lights of the house. A rich range of characters appears in the novel: self-sacrificing mothers, typists, dressmakers, porters, nightlife women, maids, merchants... An interesting female character stands out, the engine of the entire novel and the author's alter ego, through from which Dolores Medio slides her criticism of immobility and the control that Francoism exercised over all of Spanish society: social hypocrisy, the absence of a future, frustration and, ultimately, the statism imposed by circumstances
