Terenci Moix was born in 1942 in Barcelona, although he liked to say that he was born in Alexandria. With these complete memoirs, generically titled The Weight of the Straw, its author proved to be, in addition to being a great author of novels and travel books, the extraordinary chronicler of a gray Barcelona subjected to post-war trauma and in which the sessions of neighborhood cinemas were one of the few outlets for imagination and freedom. The Weight of the Straw is also the passionate and tragicomic account of the adventures of that young man who opened up to the world during the sixties while living in London, Paris, Rome and Egypt.
