El mundo en mis ojos

McCurry, Steve

For more than four decades, Steve McCurry has been one of the most iconic figures in contemporary photography. Born in Philadelphia, McCurry studied filmmaking at Pennsylvania State University, before working for a newspaper. After two years, he made the first of many trips to India. A provisioned trip with little more than a bag of clothes and film, Steve crossed the subcontinent and explored the country with his camera. After several months of travel, he crossed the border into Pakistan. In a small village, he met a group of refugees from Afghanistan, who smuggled him across the border into their country, just as the Russian invasion closed the territory to Western journalists. Wearing traditional clothing, a beard and features worn by the weather after months of living with the mujahideen, McCurry headed to the Pakistani border with the film sewn onto his clothing. McCurry's images were among the first to show the world the brutality of the Russian invasion. Since then, McCurry has created unforgettable images across seven continents and many countries. His body of work spans conflict, disappearing cultures, ancient traditions, and contemporary culture alike, but he always retains the human element that made him celebrated image of the Afghan girl such a powerful image.
