El monasterio de Sendomir ; El pobre músico ; Escritos sobre Beethoven

Grillparzer, Franz
Albaladejo Martínez, Juan Antonio (ed.)

The Austrian author par excellence, creator of the Habsburg myth and the most Spanish writer in the history of German-language literature, Franz Grillparzer (1791-1872), suffered the misfortune of living in a time marked by the repression of the Metternich system. The strict censorship demoralized him, prompting him to retire to the private sphere at his best artistic moment. Even if he never stopped writing, his existence as an artist would never be the same, and most of his later works would not see the light of day until after his death, thus late honors and his transformation into a hero of Austrian letters they never lost a deep bitter taste for him. This collection brings together his only two fictional narrative texts, "The Monastery of Sendomir" and "The Poor Musician", in which he demonstrates great mastery of the short story genre. The volume is completed with three brief writings on Beethoven, for whom he wrote an opera libretto and to whom he dedicated two speeches on the occasion of the famous composer's death.
