El mapa de las islas

El mapa de las islas

un viaje fascinante a las islas más misteriosas, terroríficas y paradisíacas

Bonnett, Alastair

The islands hide treasures. The islands are to disconnect from the noise and find each other. The islands are where the unknown survives. The mystery, the fear, the adventure, the pleasure. It should alarm us that many are disappearing. Day by day, ancient islands that have witnessed a thousand miracles disappear due to climate change. However, the human being destroys, but also creates. For better and for worse. So new islands appear: for territorial ambition, to satisfy tourism, at the whim of millionaires and for scientific needs. There are many. Runit Island, where the United States stores 73,000 m3 of radioactive waste under a dome threatened by rising waters. Seasteading, the utopia financed by the owner of PayPal that seeks to build homes on the sea independent of any national jurisdiction. The sea fortresses on the Thames, or the prisons and asylums near Venice. Or Funtasy Island, a hotel complex near Singapore for tourists seeking natural entertainment in an unspoiled paradise. We have never needed so much to fantasize about traveling to an island. Perhaps we should know much more about its fascinating history and its amazing present and future.
