El maizal
Martínez de Lezea, Toti
Nowadays, in a world controlled by the most advanced technologies, and in which computers, mobile phones, cars or airplanes are as common as heating or hot water in the taps, it is difficult to evoke a recent past. Similarly, it is difficult to get an idea about the situation of women at a time when education and access to decent work were denied them, other than that limited to the home and its environment. Elisa, Aurora, Manuela, Isabel, four generations of women from the same family whose lives span a century, from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, live and struggle in a society that is hostile to them, in which they are considered of legal age at twenty-five even as mothers. Under the parental authority of fathers and husbands, in times of wars, pandemics and social conflicts, however, they manage to survive and support their loved ones.
