The world is full of puzzles, and Mike Brink, a renowned and ingenious puzzle builder, understands their patterns like no one else. At his time, Brink was an up-and-coming soccer star, but brain trauma caused him to develop an extremely rare medical condition known as acquired savant syndrome. The injury gave him a mental superpower: solving puzzles unsolvable to ordinary people. But it also left him deeply isolated, unable to relate to other people. Everything changes when Brink meets Jess Price, a woman who is in prison serving a thirty-year sentence for murder and she hasn't said a word since her arrest five years ago. When Price draws a perplexing puzzle, her psychiatrist believes she is hiding the explanation for the crime from her and calls Brink to solve it. What begins as a desire to crack that strange code soon turns into an obsession with Price herself. The woman soon reveals that there is something more urgent and more dangerous behind her silence, which motivates Brink to try to find out the truth. The quest leads him to a series of interrelated enigmas, but the central element of the mystery is the Puzzle of God, an ancient cryptic prayer circle created by the 13th century Jewish mystic Abraham Abulafia. As Brink navigates a maze of clues and his emotional bond with Price deepens, he realizes there are powerful forces he can't escape.
