England, 1837. Victorian London is full of change and exotic spices, foods and fruits are beginning to arrive in the kitchens of all their homes, but the English ladies have turned away from them and have put them in the hands of foreign cooks and chefs. Miss Elizabeth Acton lives there, a poet on the way to becoming a spinster, whose greatest dream is to publish her second collection of poems in a prestigious publishing house. Instead of a new contract, she receives from her publisher the extravagant suggestion of writing a cookbook, something she refuses to even consider. However, when her family is disgraced and penniless, Eliza will reconsider her decision. She and Ann Kirby, a young woman from an impoverished family, will get to work and, despite the difference in classes, together they will shape a cookbook that will be part of the story.
