El huerto de una holgazana
confesiones de una aprendiz
Pera, Pia
A garden, an orchard put our hearts in the future. Confident, we hope that our care unfolds on the canvas of the earth the landscape that we have dreamed of, longed for, planned, our orchard of happiness, flowers and fruits. Giving in to an old desire, that of living in the countryside, and thanks to an abandoned farm in Tuscany, Pia Pera manages to leave behind the concerns of the metropolis and learn to work the land, cultivate crops, fill the pantry with vegetables and serenity. Upon her arrival at the farm, she finds herself "extremely illiterate", her only experience being the pots on the windowsills or on the terraces of town houses. The open land appears before her as a great unknown. The garden is a place of contemplation, play and free experimentation, there it is easier to get rid of everything that we are conditioned to desire but that has never served to make us happy. In this sense it is a paradise, Eden, a territory of carefree and innocence. The garden is different: with it we achieve a certain autonomy and reverse a course that is destroying our planet; but it demands much more, a deep knowledge of the plants, of their demands. Work and care in exchange for food and energy. The garden itself becomes a severe teacher, ruthlessly revealing defeats and failures and, precisely because of this, teaches how to face them. In this work, Pia Pera pays special attention to this tough mentor, she becomes his humble apprentice. However, for her, indomitable, cultured and curious, orchard and garden form a unit. Exceptionally gifted for harmony, she has one ambition: to reconcile them.
