The year is 59 AD. Fifteen years have passed since Rome fought the barbarians in Britain. Now, it is there that the centurion Macro goes to live. The province is experiencing troubled times. In Londinium, the atmosphere is threatening, but also the tribes that supposedly have accepted Roman rule are restless. Fresh from his retirement from the legions, Macro misses the camaraderie of the army and the drama of battle. Pickpockets and thugs control the city.
